Documentation is an essential part of treatment, whether required or not, for those patients receiving opioids to help protect your practice and to enhance clear communication with your patients.

There are many varieties of agreements. It is suggested that you consider your practice setting, your patient population and any relevant laws, regulations, policies or guidelines in determining the content of an agreement that is best suited to the needs of you and your patients.

To keep current with medical board policies, recommendations or requirements, contact your state board of medical licensure or visit the University of Wisconsin Pain & Policy Studies Group website — http://www.painpolicy.wisc.edu.
